“It’s all a bit Greenwich Village circa 1964” – The Guardian
“Immense fun from cover to cover… inc. gets away with what other poetry publications can’t” – Annexe Magazine
Inc. magazine began in late 2010 as a printed outlet for the lyrics, rhymes and reasons of the Soul Rub Collective and their hip hop and spoken word night Word is Born.
Each issue has aimed to bring together people from a wide range of creative backgrounds, from rappers to writers, musicians to artists, leading to some unique collaborations. We’ve worked with award winning slam poets Polar Bear, Sophie Olofoweyuku, Vanessa Kisuule, Ben Mellor, Jacob Sam Le Rose, the Roundhouse Collective and acclaimed poets Dan Cockrill and Elvis Mcgonagall in conjunction with some of the best up and coming illustrators in Britain.
What makes inc. so unique is the DIY aesthetic that it retains; each issue is hand stamped, numbered and labeled having been beautifully printed by an eco-friendly cooperative in Leeds. This makes each issue limited edition and only available at select stores in London, Word Is Born each month, or online at http://www.inc-zine.blogspot.com
Our launch parties are as sweaty and electric as poetry gets – the event for inc. #4 came recommended in Time Out, inc. #3 in April was Time Out’s Pick of the Week, our first event for inc #2 was in The Guide’s Pick of the Week.
